What to Do When You Don’t Like Your Friend’s Partner

  1. Reflect on Why: Ask yourself why you dislike the partner before voicing concerns. Your feelings, while valid, can sometimes cloud your judgment. If there is concern about your friend's safety and mental health, then it is fair to proceed with talking to them.

  2. Bring Up The Concern: If you decide to share, frame the conversation around your friend’s happiness and safety rather than criticizing their partner. It’ll show you are first trying to look out for them over your discontent with the relationship.

  3. Listen: Your friend may disagree with your perspective and become defensive. Listening to their viewpoint is important before deciding the next course of action.

  4. Support: Ultimately, your friend’s relationship is their decision. Even if you disagree, try to separate your feelings about the partner from your support for your friend.

Disliking a friend’s partner can be challenging, but it’s possible to maintain a strong friendship by prioritizing open communication and mutual respect.
